Lebanese Party Leader Denounces Syria-Jordan Border Terrorist Attack
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Major UN agencies specializing in providing humanitarian aid to people in need announced on Friday the successful completion of a relief operation targeting some 75,000 people at the Syria-Jordan border, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced in a statement posted on its website.

In June, Jordan sealed a berm area on its border with Syria after a deadly attack at a border post, which left tens of thousands of Syrian refugees stranded, forcing them to live in shelters along the border area.

"Today the World Food Programme [WFP], the UN High Commissioner for Refugees [UNHCR], the International Organization for Migration [IOM] and UNICEF completed an urgent relief operation to provide a one-month ration of desperately needed food and hygiene supplies to more than 75,000 people who are trapped along a land embankment, or berm, at the Syria-Jordan border," the statement reads.

The team of UN agencies thanked the Jordanian government for supporting the operation and pledged to continue to assist people in the area.

Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting numerous opposition factions and extremist groups. On February 27, a US-Russia brokered ceasefire came into force in Syria. Terrorist groups such as Islamic State (IS, also known as Daesh), as well as Jabhat Fatah al Sham (previously known as the Nusra Front), both outlawed in Russia and a range of other states, are not part of the deal.
