"Growth of Azerbaijani agricultural products supply to Russia, whose market is showing demand for them, as well as an increase in Russian exports of fertilizers and agricultural equipment to Azerbaijan, where they are needed to boost the sown areas, can play an important role in increasing bilateral trade, as we can see," Putin told AZERTAC news agency, ahead of his trip to Azerbaijan where he will participate in the meeting with Azerbaijani and Iranian leaders.
He added that relations between the two countries can be described as a strategic partnership.
Putin added that the trade turnover between Russia and Azerbaijan has amounted to $568.5 million in the first five months of 2016, which shows the 52.8 percent drop compared to the same period last year, but has noted that the two countries will be able to bring the mutual trade back to the path of sustainable growth.
On Tuesday, Kremlin announced that Russian President is scheduled to visit Azerbaijan on August 8 to discuss regional issues as well as energy and transport cooperation with Azeri and Iranian leaders.
Putin, Azerbaijani Presidnet Ilham Aliyev and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani are expected to discuss the pressing issues of international and regional policy, and the prospects for practical energy and transport cooperation.
