MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Ministry's Director of the Second Asian Department Zamir Kabulov said that Russia was willing to revive joint projects with NATO on Afghanistan after receiving signals of that nature from the Western military alliance.

“Good neighbour relations and regional cooperation and support remain essential to Afghanistan’s security and stability. We will continue to support all initiatives in this regard which will help achieve this objective. Russia should also play a constructive role in helping to stabilize Afghanistan,” the NATO official said.

Afghanistan has been experiencing significant political, social and security-related instability for decades, as radical extremist organizations, including the Taliban, continue to stage attacks against civilian and military targets.

In an interview with Sputnik last week, Afghan National Security Adviser Hanif Atmar said that Kabul hoped for renewed Russia-NATO cooperation on Afghanistan in the interests of all three sides.
