Moscow, Beijing Discuss Russian Language Study in China

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets said that Russia and China were expanding cooperation between their universities, as 900 bilateral agreements had been signed, while the volume of student exchanges has been increasing.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Moscow and Beijing are negotiating the development Russian language learning in China, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets said Monday.

"As of today, we can note a boost in interest among young people and students in learning Russian and Chinese respectively. The Chinese language took sixth place among foreign languages studied in Russia. Today, we are raising the issue and talking about a similar development of Russian language study, about forming united approaches to learning Russian on the territory of the Chinese People's Republic," Golodets told reporters after a meeting of the Russian-Chinese Commission for Humanitarian Cooperation.

The deputy prime minister added that the two countries were expanding cooperation between their universities, as 900 bilateral agreements had been signed, while the volume of student exchanges has been increasing.

Golodets stressed that special programs were being developed for tourists from Russia and China to feel more at home in their respective countries amid growth in tourist numbers.
