WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Canadian government has decided to drop visa requirements for Mexican tourists starting December 2016, Office of Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced in a press release on Tuesday.
"Lifting the visa requirement will deepen ties between Canada and Mexico and will increase the flow of travellers, ideas, and businesses between both countries," the release stated.
The Canadian authorities noted that strengthening relations with Mexico is a top priority, and Ottawa is working with Mexican officials on final details of the visa lift.
"Visitors are generally allowed a six-month stay from the day they enter Canada," the release said.
The Canadian government made the announcement upon the conclusion of Trudeau’s meeting with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto.
Pena Nieto, in turn, has announced that Mexico will allow import of Canadian beef.
The Mexican president has arrived in Ottawa to participate in the Three Amigos summit along with Canada’s prime minister and US President Barack Obama on Wednesday.
