"We have had discussions with our Russian colleagues and partners. We will continue to have more discussions, tomorrow, we will seat down and have more discussions. I think timing is really depending on them. It depends on our Russian colleagues. But we have asked for this assistance to be delivered as soon as possible. But hopefully it will be done soon," Karzai said.
Afghanistan has the capacity to accept a large number of Russian helicopters, he added, stressing that the country is seeking to start collaboration with Russia as soon as possible, which possible involved the delivery of other military equipment.
"We have provided a list [of military equipment] to our Russian colleagues. And I think it is rather early for me to talk about details in that list. But we have provided a very clear and concise list from National Security Council colleagues. And we would like to conduct an assessment on what there will be provided and how soon it will be provided," he said.
Afghanistan is in a state of political and social turmoil, fighting the continuing Taliban insurgency, while other extremist groups, such as the Islamic State, outlawed in many states worldwide including Russia, have expanded their activities in the country.
