WASHINGTON (Sputnik) India has subscribed to the Hague Code of Conduct against Ballistic Missile Proliferation, the US Department of State said in a release on Thursday.

"On June 1, India became the 138th subscribing state to the Hague Code of Conduct against Ballistic Missile Proliferation (HCOC)," the release stated.

The United States welcomed this move by India and called on all countries that have not done so to subscribe to the HCOC as well, the release noted.

The State Department defines the HCOC as "a voluntary mechanism that has built a broad international predisposition against ballistic missile proliferation and promotes transparency and confidence building."

The release pointed out that the HCOC includes a commitment to submit pre-launch notifications and countries must make annual declarations of relevant missile policies.
