MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The boat with African migrants from all parts of the continent was stopped on Sunday, UK broadcaster BBC cited a government spokesman as saying.

The report comes less than a day after Libya’s new unity government requested assistance from the European Union to help it train coast guards. EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said the issue would be raised during a European Council meeting on Monday.

The International Organization for Migration estimates that over 190,000 migrants have arrived in Europe this year after navigating the Mediterranean Sea as of May 18, while 1,359 have died on all Mediterranean routes.
