The General Motors Co. is going to stop production at four plants in the United States and Canada for two weeks since Monday due to caused by recent earthquakes in Japan delivery problems.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Detroit-based auto giant General Motors Co. said that it would halt production at four plants in the United States and Canada for two weeks since Monday due to supply-chain problems caused by the recent earthquakes in Japan.

"This temporary adjustment is not expected to have any material impact on GM’s full-year production plans in North America. In addition, the company does not expect a material impact to its second quarter or full-year financial results for GM North America," the automotive manufacturer said in a statement on Friday.

The manufacturing operations at the following GM North America assembly facilities are expected to be shut down: Spring Hill, Tennessee, Oshawa Flex Assembly, Canada, Lordstown, Ohio, and Fairfax, Kansas.

On April 14, a magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck to the east of Kumamoto city on Japan’s Kyushu Island. It was followed by multiple aftershocks. The following day, the same area was hit by a 7.0-magnitude earthquake.

In the wake of the major quakes, Japanese manufacturers Toyota and Nissan were also forced to suspend production at their plants at home due to parts supply problems.
