MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Savchenko’s defender Mark Feygin published a handwritten note on his Twitter account that he said had been penned by the 34-year-old.
In the letter, the Ukrainian said she had "taken the final decision not to file an appeal against the ruling of the Donetsk city court in my case because I see no point in this and do not recognize the legitimacy or believe in the fairness of the sentence."
Savchenko was convicted last week of directing artillery fire during the conflict in eastern Ukraine that led to the deaths of two Russian journalists, Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin, on June 17, 2014.
