Malaysia Intends to Develop Cooperation With Russia

Malaysia aims at boosting the bilateral cooperation with Russia, Abu Zahar Ujang, the president of the local parliament's upper house, said Tuesday.

Malaysia Sees 'Great Potential' for Development of Ties With Russia
KUALA LUMPUR (Sputnik) Earlier in the day, Abu Zahar Ujang held a meeting in Kuala Lumpur with his Russian counterpart Valentina Matvienko.

"We had a very good, intensive negotiations. We aim to develop cooperation between Russia and Malaysia," the Malaysian official told reporters at a joint press conference following the meeting with Russia's Federation Council speaker.

Matvienko highlighted a consistent character of the high-level dialogue between the two countries, and "in general, quite good results of cooperation in various fields."

The trade turnover between Russia and Malaysia in 2015 amounted to some $1.95 billion, including $636 million worth of goods exported by Russia and $1.31 billion by Malaysia.
