GENEVA (Sputnik) — This figure is in sharp contrast with the results of the last year when UN humanitarian agencies failed to reach affected territories amid fierce clashes between the Syrian government and opposition forces.
"Quite an achievement: 238,485 people have been reached and more than 536 different trucks have reached [the affected areas in Syria]. Last year – zero," de Mistura told reporters in Geneva.
Humanitarian convoys were able to reach areas in Syria’s Damascus and Homs provinces, as well as the areas around the cities of Az-Zabadani, Madaya, Kefraya and Fua.
