PARIS (Sputnik) — The French and Turkish foreign ministers held talks on the ongoing civil war in Syria on Monday, according to the statement published earlier in the day by the French Foreign Ministry.
"Jean-Marc Ayrault has expressed France’s great concern over the deterioration of the situation in Aleppo, where the continued bombing of the regime and its allies aggravates the suffering of the population <…> He also stressed the need to strengthen the cooperation with Turkey in the fight against Daesh," the statement reads.
Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with the army loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting several opposition factions and extremist groups, including Daesh, which is outlawed in Russia and the United States, among many other countries.
