Unknown Gunmen Attack Offices of Two Pro-Gov't Newspapers in Istanbul

Unidentified masked men attacked Istanbul offices of the Turkish newspapers Yeni Safak and Yeni Akit, known for their hardline support of the president and the ruling party, local media reported Thursday.

ANKARA (Sputnik) – The gunmen were hurling Molotov cocktails at the newspapers' offices, and then opened fire at the buildings, the Hurriуet daily reported.

The attack on the Yeni Safak editorial office took place at about 5 a.m. local time [03:00 GMT], half an hour later Yeni Akit was subjected to a similar assault. No injuries were reported.

There was fire in both buildings, which was quickly extinguished. A large number of police officers arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area.

The investigation into the attacks has already been launched.
