US-Led Coalition Launches 18 Airstrikes Against Daesh in Iraq, 2 in Syria
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) The US-led coalition against the Daesh in Iraq and Syria has deployed two aircraft carrier groups to replace withdrawn Canadian forces, Operation Inherent Resolve spokesman Col. Steve Warren told reporters on Wednesday.

"Two aircraft carrier groups have rotated into the area within the last 30 to 60 days, so this really makes up for this gap," Warren stated. "Additionally, we saw the Dutch provide additional fighter aircraft two weeks ago."

On Monday, Canada announced that it would conclude airstrikes against the Islamic State in the next two weeks, but would continue supporting the US-led coalition by providing aircraft for refueling and surveillance purposes.

Canada has been conducting airstrikes again the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq in coordination with the coalition since 2014.

The Islamic State, also known as Daesh, is a designated terrorist group that has been outlawed by the United States, Russia as well as numerous other countries.
