The agreement was signed in the Argentine capital on July 12, 2014 to develop the international legal base for cooperation between both countries on transfer of sentenced persons.

"Under the agreement, the parties will, on a reciprocal basis and in accordance with the agreement’s conditions, transfer persons sentenced to terms of imprisonment to continue their sentence in their home country. This will help to protect Russian citizens’ lawful rights and interests," a statement on the Kremlin website read.

The accord on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters defines the conditions for the transfer of convicted persons, puts forward the requirements to the form and content of transfer requests and responses to them, as well as the order of their processing.
