MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The UN summit on refugees and migrants will seek a 30-percent increase in support for the funding of humanitarian appeals, US Secretary of State John Kerry said Friday.

"In response to the global refugee crisis, President [Barack] Obama is going to host a summit at the UN this fall and the summit will be the culmination of a sustained, rigorous effort to rally the world community on several fronts, [including] to increase by 30 percent a response to the humanitarian funding appeals," Kerry said at a panel session of the 46th annual World Economic Forum, currently underway in the Swiss town of Davos.

He added that among other goals of the summit would be increasing the number of regular humanitarian donors by at least 10 percent, doubling the number of refugees who are resettled, expanding by 10 the total number of countries admitting refugees and to put a million children into school and a million people working legally.

The Summit on Addressing Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants is expected to be held on September 19, one day prior to the opening of the UN General Assembly’s 2016 General Debate.
