MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to the Turkish Sabah newspaper, Dunford and Akar are expected to discuss the situation in Syria and Iraq, partly occupied by the Daesh, also known as ISIL/The Islamic State militant group.
The newspaper added that the deterioration of relations between Shiite Iran and Sunni Saudi Arabia could also be on the agenda of the negotiations.
Turkey, as well as the United States, are the members of a US-led anti-Daesh coalition, fighting the extremist group, prohibited in many countries, including Russia.
Saudi Arabia cut off diplomatic ties with Iran on Sunday following an attack on its embassy in Tehran and the consulate in the northeastern city of Mashhad after Saudi authorities executed a prominent Shiite cleric. The attack on the diplomatic missions, as well as the execution intensified Sunni-Shiite tensions in the region.
