NATO Insists Military Contacts With Russia Remain Open
MOSCOW (Sputnik) The Netherlands welcomes the Russian NATO envoy's recent call to engage in dialogue within the NATO-Russia council, Ahmed Dadou, spokesman for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Sputnik on Wednesday.

“The Netherlands has argued consistently that NATO’s adaptation process should go hand-in-hand with more engagement with Russia, preferably in the context of the NATO-Russia Council. We therefore welcome Ambassador Grushko’s stated interest in the NATO-Russia Council,” Dadou said.

Russia’s permanent NATO envoy Alexander Grushko said earlier in the week that Moscow was ready to discuss security matters within the council, though calling to restore military contacts first.

The NATO-Russia Council's work has been largely suspended after NATO foreign ministers issued a statement in April 2014 condemning Crimea's reunification with Russia.
