BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — NATO is beginning to search for a source of funds for financing Afghanistan's military after the planned withdrawal of alliance forces from the country in 2017, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on Tuesday.
An ongoing meeting between bloc foreign ministers aims to "discuss how we are going to start the campaign for mobilizing the necessary funds finances for funding the national Afghan forces also after 2017," Stoltenberg told reporters at the opening of talks in Brussels.
Other aims of the meeting regarding Afghanistan were to decide on alliance troop numbers for 2016, as well as discussing NATO's long term political partnership with Afghanistan, Stoltenberg said, adding that the Afghan foreign minister is present at the meeting.
