WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Canadian province of Ontario will welcome 4,000 Syrian refugees by early 2016 fleeing political oppression, provincial Health Minister Eric Hoskins said.

"We have sites identified. Some of those sites have taken the extra step of ensuring they are prepared to accommodate the refugees," Hoskins was quoted by The Canadian Press as saying on Monday. "I think it's a better approach to understand that we will be receiving our share. We know what that will be roughly."

On Wednesday, Canada’s Ad Hoc Cabinet Committee on Refugees Chair Jane Philpott said the country would take in 10,000 Syrian refugees by the end of 2015, pushing the deadline to receiving the total of 25,000 refugees to the end of February.

"This is the business that we're in in Ontario, receiving refugees and welcoming them and supporting them," Hoskins stated. "In the last week we made a course correction, a good one, as a result of the clarity from the federal plan."

On November 23, local media reported that the Canadian government will allow only women, children and married men with families to enter the country as refugees amid heightened security concerns.
