MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The international community must unite in countering the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group operating in Syria and Iraq, German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen said.
"The recent resolution of the Security Council speaks a clear language: fight against IS must be a top priority for France, as well as for the United States, China, Russia, Turkey, Iran, the Arab states and us," von der Leyen told the Bild newspaper in an interview on Sunday.
The defense minister added that the efforts of the international community must be aimed at weakening IS extremists by limiting their range of movement, destroying their training camps and stopping the group's oil revenues.
On November 20, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2249, "unequivocally" condemning the Islamic State and al-Qaeda, as well as associated groups.
