MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The terrorist attack on a Russian passenger plane in Egypt underscores the importance of cooperation between the two countries in the flight against the Islamic State, Russia's Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said Wednesday.
"This was discussed yesterday at a meeting between Russian Defense Minister Gen. Sergei Shoigu and Egypt's defense minister and president," Antonov told reporters.
"It was noted during the talk that what happened with the Russian plane speaks of the need for the international community to join efforts against ISIL. And here, of course, Russian-Egyptian cooperation plays an important role," the deputy minister said.
According to Antonov, Egyptian authorities believe the plane attack was an attempt by terrorists to undermine relations between the two countries.
