According to Serbia's Ambassador to Russia, Belgrade is ready to join the fight against terrorism.

YEKATERINBURG (Sputnik) — Belgrade is prepared to help in the global fight against terrorism and to do its part in managing the ongoing migrant crisis in the European Union, Serbia's Ambassador to Russia Slavenko Terzic said Tuesday.

"<…> Serbia is ready to help in the fight against terrorism and is ready to help solve this migrant issue. But [Serbia] can’t take on this complex issue on its own," Terzic told reporters.

The ambassador said that Serbia would provide assistance in receiving, registering and accommodating refugees fleeing violence and poverty in the Middle East and North Africa.

Some 4,000 refugees pass through Serbia every day on their way to more prosperous European countries, according to Terzic.

EU border agency Frontex has estimated over 1.2 million illegal crossings into the European Union since the beginning of the year in what has become the largest human migration through Europe since World War II.
