BANGKOK (Sputnik) Thailand and Russia have set up a working group to commence cooperating in five scientific fields, Thailand’s Science and Technology Minister Pichet Durongkaveroj told RIA Novosti Monday.

“We have agreed to begin work in the areas currently available… We designated five such areas of cooperation: nanotechnologies, meteorology, nuclear research, space exploration, information technology and electronics,” the minister said.

Durongkavero met with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Livanov during an official visit to Russia in early November. The two sides agreed to set up a working group dedicated to joint scientific and technological research and innovation. Thailand’s science minister also visited the Open Innovations Forum in Moscow’s VDNKh exhibition grounds.

The group has been established under the auspices of the Russian-Thai Commission on Bilateral Cooperation, Durongkavero added. The science ministries of both countries will nominate specialists from the five fields in question to work on the joint projects.

The sides noted that the joint research should benefit of both national economies while attracting private sector investors.
