US President Barack Obama has reportedly given the go-ahead for the resupply of Syrian Kurds and the Arab-Syrian opposition, part of his strategy to supposedly eliminate the Islamic State group.

Syrian Kurds and the Arab-Syrian opposition will be resupplied by the United States, in a move authorized by the country's President Barack Obama, CNN reported.

The resupply, which was approved at a National Security Council meeting late last week, comes as part of a strategy to put pressure on Islamic State militants from the north and strengthen the border, US officials said.

"President Obama was clear that we intend to continue our efforts to degrade and ultimately destroy ISIL in Syria and to keep supporting the moderate Syrian opposition," they said.

The move comes as Russia continues its precision airstrikes on Islamic State targets amid allegations by some senior US officials that the operation's real goal is to strengthen ties between Moscow and Syrian President Bashar Assad.

As far as the resupply of Syrian opposition is concerned, the topic was the bottom line of expert Matt Purple's article published by the US magazine The National Interest.

He recalled that Washington has armed and trained the so-called moderate Syrian rebels since 2013, "first through the CIA, to the tune of one billion dollars a year, and then through the Pentagon."

According to Purple, "the result of this has been wholly predictable, with American-trained rebels relinquishing their weapons to al-Qaeda and ISIS fighters brandishing US-made anti-tank missiles."

Echoing him was former chief of the US Defense Intelligence Agency Michael Flynn, who warned that US further arming the Syrian opposition could lead to a further escalation of the conflict in this Middle Eastern country.
