MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On September 14, Australia’s Liberal party voted in favor of Malcolm Turnbull taking over the country’s post of prime minister, ousting Abbott. This vote resulted in the fifth change of leader in the country in the last five years.
“If you listen to the Prime Minister and the Treasurer, they’re even using exactly the same phrases that Joe Hockey [the Treasurer of Australia in Abbott’s government] and I were using just a fortnight ago,” Abbott said in an interview with the country's radio 2GB radio.
He also said that he hoped the recent change of a prime minister to be the last for the foreseeable future, adding that the country’s leaders should not be changed like “clothes to suit the fashion.”
In Australia if a prime minister dies or loses the leadership of the ruling party, the Parliament of Australia is not dissolved, instead the new leader of the biggest parliamentary party becomes the country's prime minister.
