"The similarity or overlaps of Russian and Egyptian approaches to the developments in the Middle East have been acknowledged during an extensive exchange of views," the ministry said.
The remarks published on the foreign ministry’s website followed Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov’s meeting with the Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s counselor, Nazih Naggary.
Bogdanov and Naggary met in Moscow earlier in the day to discuss approaches to settling the crises in Syria, Israeli-Palestinian relations, as well as countering terror groups like the Islamic State (ISIL) jihadist network.
"The mutual intent to further deepen the trust-based dialogue in the spirit of traditionally friendly ties linking Moscow and Cairo has also been affirmed," the Russian ministry added.
Russia cooperates with Egypt in a number of areas, including nuclear energy and arms sales.
Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah Sisi in Moscow, where the two leaders pledged to boost ties and form a broad anti-terrorism front in the region.
