Large Western corporations influence national media to disseminate information beneficial and profitable for business, the chief executive of Iran’s Press TV network told Sputnik on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik), Anastasia Levchenko – Mohammad Akhgari named Western media as one of two tools in his definition of “global Americanization.”

“In other words, the media soft power paves the way toward military intervention. All of this serves one ultimate goal of business,” Akhgari told Sputnik.

A new ICM Research poll conducted exclusively for Sputnik reveals that over half of European and United States residents view their media outlets as influenced by politicians and business.

“Western big business exerts huge influence on their media, advancing the spread of the exact information that is beneficial to them,” Mohammad Akhgari said.

Akhgari pointed out that this selectiveness is exemplified in Western media coverage regarding oil revenues generated by Islamic State in Iraq.

“In this region full of conflict and antagonism, a group like Islamic State generates oil and sells its crude to the West,” he stated.

Black market ISIL oil sales to energy companies that have financial or logistical links to the United States and the United Kingdom are largely unreported save for sporadic investigative pieces on minor online outlets.
