World Police and Fire Games See Russian Swimmers in Dominant Form

A Russian Interior Ministry team has won an incredible fourteen gold medals in the swimming event at the 2015 World Police and Fire Games currently under way in the US city of Fairfax.

The medal podium in the swimming event at the ongoing 2015 World Police and Fire Games was taken over by athletes from the Russian Interior Ministry team, who won 14 gold medals in total, according to news reports.

With a total of 118 medals, including 72 golds, Russia remains in fourth position in the games overall.

First and second places are currently held by the United States and Canada, which won 882 and 194 medals, respectively, while Spain is still holding onto third position with 127 medals.

Later this day, all eyes will certainly be on the ice arena in Ashburn, where a Moscow police team is due to take on their Canadian counterparts in the finals of the ice hockey event.

A biennial athletic event, the World Police and Fire Games are open to active and retired law enforcement and fire service personnel across the world.

The athletes are competing in 61 Olympic and non-Olympic disciplines, such as lacrosse, paintball and pool.

This year, about 12,000 athletes are taking part in the games which are due to wrap up on July 5.

The Russian team, headed by Deputy Interior Minister Igor Zubov, includes 265 athletes representing the Interior Ministry, the Emergencies Ministry, the Federal Drug Control Service and the Federal Penitentiary Service.
