Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Milan Wednesday to attend the opening ceremony of the Russian national day at the Expo 2015 before holding talks with Italian Prime Minster Matteo Renzi.

MILAN (Sputnik) — Later on Wednesday, Russian leader will travel to Rome to meet with Italian President Sergio Mattarella as well as former Italian Prime Minister and close friend Silvio Berlusconi.

Putin is also scheduled to be given a private audience by Pope Francis in the Vatican.

The Russian President is set to discuss global issues, including the Ukrainian crisis, with the Italian leadership and the pontiff, according to presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.
