"After 9/11 the US government assumed the right to meddle into the development of international affairs and processes," the journalist claimed. "This is the way the US sees the situation: if major international cases involve terrorist organizations and mafia along with money transferring via American banks, then the government takes the necessary measures."
According to Basaran, money was transferred through American banks, and there were hundreds of millions of US dollars in bribes.
On Thursday, it was reported that major US financial institutions, including JPMorgan, Bank of American and Citigroup, were involved in the case.
The two-decade-long corruption scheme saw FIFA officials receive over $150 million in bribes and setbacks from sports executive, according to the indictment filed on May 20.
"The US decided that it was free to go and that it had to play the role of punisher for bribe takers," the journalist stated.
Basaran also commented on the claim by the US Justice Department that a second stage of the anti-corruption operation is possible in the future.
"UEFA President Michel Platini may also be involved in the operation. So representatives of many countries commented on the scandal," he said.
According to the journalist, Joseph Blatter was under heavy pressure to force him to withdraw from FIFA president election. Blatter’s main rival in this campaign is Jordan Prince Ali bin Hussein, Basaran claimed.
