A Vancouver police officer smashed a motorist’s window and physically dragged him out of the car to take him into custody, during a traffic stop, but wouldn’t tell him why.

In a video shared on YouTube last week, the cop is shown aggressively banging on the car’s window, and shouting "Hit the brakes, you moron."

When the driver, who identifies himself as Bodhi Sattva on YouTube, asks why he had been pulled over, the policeman demands that he open the door and steps outside.

"Sir, why have you pulled me over?" Sattva said, refusing to comply with the officer’s order.

"I’m not playing this game," the officer warns. "I'm gonna break the window now in two seconds."

Before smashing the window, the officer can be heard saying "I smell weed coming from the vehicle," and the driver replying "No, you’re not."

The driver claims that after he was "physically assaulted and emotionally traumatized, the officers performed a roadside examination and found that [he] was not impaired or under the influence."

The Vancouver Police Department says the driver was charged with "possession of a controlled substance, possession for the purposes of trafficking and obstructing a police officer," CBC News reported.

Regardless of the driver’s possessions, legal experts believe the officer violated the Sattva’s rights by failing to inform him about the reason behind his arrest.

"You can’t blame this individual for it. He's being polite and cooperative. You can blame the police for their attitude," Paul Doroshenko told CBC. "There is no justification for this type of behavior."

Doroshenko added that motorists are not obligated to open their doors when asked by police, but they are required to hand over their driver’s license through a cracked window.

"Ultimately what they do is, in my view, an unlawful arrest, smashing his window, destroying his property and it looks like a violent arrest."

The YouTube user identified the officer as Sergeant Christiansen.
