As Poland feeds apples piled up due to Russian sanctions to the US officers who are in Poland for joint military exercises, Poles themselves are storming Russian stores in search of cheap products.

At least the Poles have found someone willing to eat their apples.

The harvest has piled up in the country since Russia, once the leading consumer of Polish apples, introduced a ban on food imports from the EU, US, Norway, Canada and Australia.

The ban was a counter-attack against countries which had agreed to the sanctions which were initiated by the US and supported by its NATO allies against Moscow over the Ukrainian crisis.

Now the US Mission to NATO, which is in Poland for military exercises, is gobbling up the apples that couldn't make it to Russia.

Meanwhile, there are Poles who are now flocking to Russia in search of cheap products.

Since the recent collapse of the Russian ruble, the import of products marked “Made in Russia” into Poland has broken all records, according to the Polish newspaper Metro.

In 2014 Poland purchased goods in Russia worth €160.6 million, which is 78.9% higher than in 2013. On the other hand, Polish exports to Russia for the same period shrank by 30% to a record low of €880 million.

The Poles are now purchasing not only food products but gasoline and electronics.
