US Military on Alert After ISIL Releases 'Death List' of Servicemen

US Marine Corps Lt. Col. John Caldwell said that it is recommended Marines and family members check their online/social footprint, ensuring privacy settings are adjusted to limit the amount of available personal information.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The US Marine Corps urged vigilance among their staff on Sunday, after the Islamic State (ISIL) militant group released a list of military personnel it aims to kill, as well as their photos and addresses, the Marine Corps Times reported.

“It is recommended Marines and family members check their online/social footprint, ensuring privacy settings are adjusted to limit the amount of available personal information,” US Marine Corps Lt. Col. John Caldwell said as quoted by the newspaper on Saturday.

Earlier, a group calling itself the ISIL' "Hacking Division" posted online a list of US military personnel who the group believed had taken part in attacks on ISIL forces in Syria, Iraq and Yemen, urging its supporters in the United States to "deal with" the military.

The US-led coalition has been carrying airstrikes against ISIL militants in Iraq and Syria for over half a year. Several US servicemen on the published list appeared in news articles about airstrikes on ISIL positions.

The Islamic State is a jihadist group notorious for its human rights abuses, including multiple kidnappings and killings. In 2014, it took vast territories in Iraq and Syria under control. The group’s affiliates also operate in North Africa, Yemen, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
