Russia to Donate 130 Trucks to UN World Food Program: Emergencies Ministry

130 Russian trucks will be used for transportation of humanitarian aid to hard to access regions in Africa and central Asia, according to the statement of the Russian Emergencies Ministry.

MOSCOW, December 15 (Sputnik) — Russia will hand over 130 trucks to the UN World Food Program (WFP) on Tuesday for the deliveries of aid to hard-to-reach African and central Asian regions, the Russian Emergencies Ministry said Monday in a statement.

"The delivery of trucks is in accordance with the instructions of the Russian government. The trucks will be used for transportation of humanitarian aid to the regions in Africa and central Asia difficult of access," the statement said, adding that Russian trucks will be used in South Sudan, Ghana, Uganda and Afghanistan in particular.

The ministry added that in 2015, Russia will hand over 80 more trucks to the WFP, highlighting that in 2011, 40 Russian trucks were donated to help Afghanistan.

The World Food Program was established in 1963 to alleviate hunger and promote food security across the globe. In 2011, the organization"s aid reached 99 million people in 75 countries, providing them with 4.5 million tons of food, according to data published on the WFP website.
