ROSTOV-ON-DON, July 27 (RIA Novosti) – The fighting near Ukraine’s Dolzhanskiy and Uspenka border crossings has stopped, neighboring checkpoints resumed their service, a representative of Russia’s Federal Customs Service told RIA Novosti Sunday.

Earlier reports suggested that on Sunday morning the fight began in the area of Ukraine’s Dolzhanskiy border crossing and the neighboring Novoshakhtinsk checkpoint was closed.

“At 4:00 p.m. local time (11:00 GMT) the clashes in [the southeastern] Ukraine finished, the customs officers returned to the Novoshakhtinsk and Veselo-Voznesenka checkpoints,” Rayan Farukshin representing the Southern Customs Department reported.

He added that Veselo-Voznesenka restarted checking transport crossing the Ukrainian – Russian border.

The Kuybyshevo border crossing in Russia’s Rostov Region is still closed, due to the suspension of work of the neighboring Ukrainian border crossing checkpoint.

Since the beginning of the special military operation launched by Kiev to suppress independence supporters in the east of Ukraine, the clashes in the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions neighboring the Russian border have become more frequent.

Earlier this month, Moscow invited the OSCE observers to assess the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border, which has been hit multiple times by the Ukrainian artillery and mortar fire.
