MOSCOW, May 20 (RIA Novosti) - At least three policemen have been killed as gunmen launched an attack on their station in the north of Iraq, media quoted local officials as saying.
Two police officers were also wounded in the town of Rawa about 260 kilometers (160 miles) northwest of the capital Baghdad, the BBC reported late Sunday. According to reports cited by the British broadcaster, another seven policemen died in a separate attack in Haditha, a nearby town.
Some of recent deadly attacks in the Anbar province have been blamed on Sunni militants. Gunmen in Anbar kidnapped up to 10 policemen at a checkpoint in Ramadi on Saturday.
At least 60 people were killed in bombings in Sunni Muslim areas in and around Baghdad last Friday. The bombings came after deadly attacks on Shia targets across the country.
