Putin Peak, a mountain in Kyrgyzstan’s Tian Shan range named in honor of the Russian president, has been summited for the first time, the head of a Kyrgyz mountaineering association said at a news conference on Friday.

“Putin Peak, 14,583 feet high, took 19 hours to summit,” said Vladimir Bogolyubov, the lead coach of Kyrgyzstan’s Climbing Federation.

The previously unnamed mountain was dubbed Putin Peak by decree of the Kyrgyz president in March 2011.

The summiteers – a group of Russian and Kyrgyz climbers – made it to the top by a route rated as “fairly difficult,” Bogolyubov said.

They planted the national flags of Russia and Kyrgyzstan at the summit.

Another expedition plans to climb the mountain in October using a more difficult route.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is no doubt pleased by the honor, but he might have hoped for a higher mountain. Putin Peak is dwarfed by other mountains in the Kyrgyz portion of the Tian Shan range, including Victory Peak (24,406 ft) and Khan Tengri (23,000 ft).
