At least two people were killed and five injured in retaliatory attacks by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) guerilla group, whose leader was killed last Friday.

Alfonso Cano, who took over as FARC leader after the 2008 death of the group's longtime ruler Manuel Marulanda, was killed in an airstrike on the group's base carried out by Colombian armed forces.

The first attack, in which one person was killed and two injured, took place in a village in the southwestern Cauca Department.

During the second attack, FARC members threw grenades at a military convoy, killing one person and injuring three.

FARC is a Marxist-Leninist guerrilla group established in 1960s. It is considered a terrorist organization by the Colombian government, the U.S. and the EU. The rebels' revenues are believed to be partly obtained from drug trafficking and kidnapping.
