WASHINGTON (VR) – One of the largest teachers’ unions in the United States has announced it will start giving $30,000 grants to some of its members to critique and rewrite Common Core Standards. The American Federation of Teachers is announcing the move at their annual convention that kicked off today in Los Angeles. In the past, the AFT hasn’t completely bashed the standards but the union has grown increasingly critical, experts say this could be a major blow to the standard’s supporters.

WASHINGTON (VR) –Israeli jets attacked at least 50 targets in the Gaza Strip earlier today. At least 15 people were reportedly killed, many others wounded. The action follows over 100 rockets being fired from Gaza into Israeli territory, failed US peace negotiations, the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teenagers and a retaliatiatory murder by Israelis against a Palestinian teenager.

Heralded as the man who helped end the Cold War, Shevardnadze had a positive reputation in the West. WASHINGTON (VR)– Russia’s Foreign Ministry denounced the U.S. arrest of a Russian national on vacation in the Maldives arguing that it was in violation of an international agreement. The secret service detained 30-year-old Roman Seleznev on July 5, after forcing him aboard a plane bound for Guam on charges of hacking Americans’ credit card information. A federal court has ruled to continue to detain Seleznev, a decision that is eliciting protest from Russia.

WASHINGTON (VR) – The ongoing US Sanctions against Russia have created some choppy waters for Americans companies, but some of America's biggest credit card companies have decided to keeping doing business there. Probably is the financial institution's bottom line. According to Morgan Stanley, Visa generates annual revenues of about $471 million in Russia and about 2 percent of Mastercards gross revenues is derived from business there.
