Saudi foreign minister says decisive stand needed against Syria
"The rejection of the Syrian regime of all serious and earnest Arab efforts .... requires a decisive and serious stand by the international community to stop the humanitarian tragedy of the Syrian people," Prince Saud was quoted as saying by the state news agency SPA.
The Arab League said on Tuesday it holds Syrian President Bashar al-Assad responsible for a chemical attack near Damascus, as speculation mounted that the United States was preparing a military strike.
Diplomatic sources said the statement, issued after a meeting of Arab League delegates in Cairo, was pushed through with strong backing from Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
