Michigan Senator suggests Detroit dissolution be considered
“We really have to look at everything that is on the table,” he told CBS Detroit.
However, dissolution would hardly be the solution for the city, Detroit’s ex-communications chief Karen Dumas argued in a radio program.
“We need to stop playing politics and come up with a solution for progress,” he said.
Detroit has struggled with its budget for many years as the city’s population decreased and the automotive industry has lessened. The city authorities are criticized for not capable to handle the problems.
Meanwhile Randy Richardville, the Senate Republican leader, said the city officials should be given two options: “Allow those elected officials in the City of Detroit to vote whether they want an appointed emergency financial manager or whether instead they would like to go toward federal bankruptcy.”
