10,000 US Army servicemen to remain in Afghanistan after 2014

The Wall Street Journal reports with reference to the International Security Assistance Force, ISAF, Commander John Allen that 10,000 US Army servicemen will remain deployed in Afghanistan after the ISAF troops pull out of the Asian country in 2014, to train Afghan Army soldiers and fight terrorists.

In early May, President Barack Obama and his Afghan counterpart, Hamid Karzai, agreed to sign an agreement on security that would regulate the US military presence in Afghanistan after 2014. Some 70,000 US troops are currently deployed in Afghanistan.
