Egypt’s President pardons revolutionaries of 2011-2012
The presidential amnesty pardons "all Egyptian prisoners or those under trial on charges related to revolutionary events, dating from January 25th 2011 to June 30th 2012."
Cairo and other major cities of Egypt were swept by many-million strong protest actions on January 25, 2011 against the existing regime. The developments subsequently resulted in the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak.
On June 30, 2012, after securing victory in the country’s first democratic elections, Mohammed Mursi was sworn in as the new president of Egypt.
