Recent spy scandal not related to ingelligence - Ryabkov

Russia is concerned about the recent spy scandal that broke out in the US. According to Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, the espionage charges that were brought against a number of Russian nationals are criminal and have nothing to do with intelligence activities.

Russian diplomats have met with one of the accused and will be seeing others as well, Ryabkov said.

The Russian deputy foreign minister said that the whole matter was unclear and expressed hope that the rights of Russian nationals would be protected.

On Wednesday a New York court accused 11 Russians of exporting defense technologies to Russia.

The spy scandal has erupted in the thick of the election race in the US.
