Syria accepts Iraq’s proposal for a NAM Contact Group
Syria has accepted Iraq’s proposal for setting up a Contact Group from among Non-Alignment Movement countries that would mediate a settlement of the Syrian crisis.
This came in a statement in Tehran yesterday by Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem.
Baghdad suggests that Damascus should give up the use of force to settle the crisis, while the opposition should simultaneously stop its armed rebellion.
This should be followed by a conference involving all the parties to the conflict.
