Belarus may switch to Russian ruble
In a meeting with the head of the Russian Republic of Bashkortostan, Rustem Khamitov, the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, said he did not see it as a catastrophe that the Russian ruble had not yet been introduced as a unit of account in Belarus.
At the same time, the Belarusian leader did not exclude such a possibility in the future. "We have Belarusian rubles, you have the Russian ruble. Should we want to, both currencies will become operational. We will find an opportunity," said the President.
On the eve of the meeting, the Russian Ambassador to Belarus Alexander Surikov raised the issue of a single currency on the territory of both states. According to the diplomat, the Belarusian economy will not survive a second crisis.
