Jewels at Bolshoi Theatre
A premiere of the ballet Jewels by outstanding 20th century choreographer George Balanchine, which was first performed 45 years ago, is to take place at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow on the 5th of May, artistic director of the Bolshoi ballet company Sergey Filin has told the RIA Novosti news agency.
“We did our best to make this performance special, to make this masterpiece remain in history and to decorate it with extraordinary Van Cleef Arpels jewels which inspired Balanchine to stage this ballet,” Filin said.
Balanchine created Jewelsfor the New York City Ballet in 1967.
The ballet consists of three parts: Emeralds to music by Gabriel Faure, Rubies (Igor Stravinsky) and Diamonds (Pyotr Tchaikovsky).
