Mother of God’s belt comes to Russia
Russia’s Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has met a delegation of Greek monks in an airport in St. Petersburg.
The delegation brought a belt which is believed to have belonged to Mary, the Mother of God, to Russia for worshiping. It is the first time that this relic is brought to Russia.
A Byzantine legend says that not long before Mary’s death, Her garments and belt were handed over to two pious widows in Jerusalem.
Currently, the belt belongs to the Vatoped monastery on Mount Athos in Greece. It is believed that the belt has a power to help childless women to have children.
St. Petersburg clergymen performed a service to venerate the relic.
